The Hummingbird Bakery ‘Life Is Sweet’ Book

The Hummingbird Bakery is back with another incredible book, this one titled ‘Life Is Sweet’. The book is written by Tarek Malouk, who opened the first Hummingbird Bakery on London’s Portobello Road in 2004. Tarek worked in The USA, whilst there realised that these indulgent treats and bakery goods loved by Americans were almost non-existent in the UK. With that he decided to bring over his knowledge and share them with the British public. Now The Hummingbird Bakery is thriving with six bakeries in London and three in Dubai!

Life Is Sweet

This book deserves the best spot on any book shelf or coffee table. The cover alone is fun, sweet and utterly drool-worthy!

The Hummingbird Bakery share over 100 recipes in this book which breaks down into a number of sections; Cakes, Cupcakes, Layer Cakes, Pies, Cookies & Candies, Traybakes, Pancakes, Ice Cream, Puddings and Bread & Savouries.
With so many recipes, there’s definitely something for all the family in this well interpreted book. Each recipe is easy to follow and fear not, you don’t have to be a well-skilled baker either. After reading through the book it’s clear to see there is a great range of recipes from Easy to Technical.
And there is such a great variety to choose from and some seriously quirky recipes too. I thought it would be classic American recipes but to open a page and find Tomato Soup Cupcakes was incredible.

Some other recipes I cannot wait to try include; Red Velvet Brownies, Earl Grey Tea and Chocolate Ice Cream, Deep Fried Apples Pies and Gooey Butter Cake.

The Hummingbird Bakery

I’m a huge fan of The Hummingbird Bakery, since visiting one of their bakeries for the first time and purchasing my first American-style cupcake. They never disappoint and with this being my third book from them – already owning The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook and Home Sweet Home – I can confidently say that the recipes are only getting better! They’ve pushed it to another level! Introducing quirky American home-baking and ingredients you wouldn’t expect to be in a cake recipe!
